Church School

Church School meets twice monthly on Sundays following Divine Liturgy.

“What good fortune therefore it is to receive a good, truly Christian upbringing, to enter with it into the years of youth, then in the same spirit to enter into the years of adulthood” - Saint Theophan the Recluse

In Sunday school, children learn about our Orthodox Faith. However, parents are the most influential persons in a child’s life. They are the first and best teacher of a child. Therefore, it is confusing for children when parents expect them to do more than what they, as adults do in the Christian life. We are called to become living icons of God. We are to be examples to our children and to model a Christian life. If we want our children to go to confession, we need to go to confession. If we want them to receive communion, we need to receive communion. If we want them to have God as a priority, we have to live a life that is reflective of this. We need to make attendance at church services a priority. If we want our children to be faithful, loving, forgiving and God fearing people, we have to be the example. We should live a Christian life daily, hourly, not only on Sundays. Our homes should be little churches with icon corners where the family can pray together or in their rooms in private. We should incense and bless our homes so that our God and Savior Jesus Christ becomes real to them, and they will begin to experience the sweet fragrance of His mercy and love. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

We welcome parents as guest teachers. Please contact us if you would like to share a lesson, a book, a craft or an experience with our children.

“The righteous who walks in his integrity - blessed are his children after him! (Proverbs 20:7).
